Meeting Your Teacher and the First Day of School
Your child’s Kindergarten teacher will call you by Wednesday, August 11th when class lists are prepared. She will make an appointment time with you to bring your child up to meet her and see his/her classroom and go over classroom procedures and answer any questions you may have. These meetings will take place Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th- the first two days of school for all other grades.
The first day of school for Kindergarten will be Wednesday, August 18th
First Day of School (Grades 1-12): Monday, August 16th

You will need to supply your child with the following:
*MAKE SURE ALL SUPPLIES ARE LABELED WITH THE CHILD’S NAME*
- Plastic nap mat (thin type is best; can be found at Wal-Mart or Amazon)
- Backpack (does NOT have to be clear or mesh)
- A coloring book (whatever interests your child)
- DAILY snack (your child’s teacher will explain more later)
- Personal water bottle
***ALL OTHER SUPPLIES PROVIDED BY THE DISTRICT***
Dismissal
Bus Riders- Bus numbers will be assigned when you meet your child’s teacher. Make sure a completed bus tag is pinned to your child on the 1st day of school and continue to do this for the first month of school. After the first month or so, you will still need to pin the bus tag on your child’s backpack.
If your child’s way of getting home OR the place he/she is going after school changes, you MUST either write the teacher a note or call the school before 2:00 pm. DO NOT rely on telling your child. We will not vary a student’s routine based solely on what he/she says he’s been told to do.
Car Riders- Your teacher will give you a car pass from the office if you are to pick up a child (2 cards per family). This card must have your child’s name on it. At 2:40, the car riders will go to the cafeteria. As you wait in your car in line to pick up your child, please make sure the large car pass you were given with your child’s name on it is visible in a window so that the teacher on duty can see it. She will then call to the cafeteria for him/her and you will pull forward to the assigned pick-up spot. If you do NOT have your car pass with you, you will need to go to the office and show your driver’s license to get a temporary pass. If you are NOT on the child’s data sheet and a note has not already been given to the office, you will not be allowed to take that child until we can contact the parent/guardian and verify it is okay for the student to go with you.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory in ALL grades! The doors open at 7:25, the first bell rings at 7:55, and at 8:00, your child is considered tardy. At this time, do not let your child out and send them inside alone. At this point, you must walk him/her in and sign your child in where he/she will get a pass to go to class.
Every time your child is absent, you must write the teacher a note as to why or send the doctor or dentist’s excuse to school. If the absences AND/OR tardies are excessive without valid reasons or documentation, a conference with the principal will be scheduled and a FINS with the Garland County Juvenile Court may be filed.
*For health and safety reasons, there will be no visitors at lunch, and parents/visitors will not be allowed in the hallways or classrooms.
