Middle School February Parent Info

Sixth and Seventh Grade Families,

I hope the recent cold/rainy weather was easy on you and your family.  Snow days are always fun, but four days is too much for my taste.  Please know that all days missed will be added to the school calendar in May.

I have emailed our Winter NWEA results.  This week I spoke to both grades about why these results are important and how we use them.  The attachment shows an overview of each grade level, but you have your child's individual NWEA progress with his/her report card.  These results are a great way to review your child’s grade-level progress.  Likewise, I have included a report from The Bureau of Labor Statistics.  This report shows the projected job growth in the United States.  Believe it or not, we discussed this with our students at LHMS.  We highlighted the results for individuals with and without a high school diploma.

Scheduling conferences are coming up in April for the 2024-2025 school year.  Please start to have conversations with your child about courses he/she is interested in taking.  Seventh grade families will hold their conference at the Junior High and sixth grade families will hold their conference here at LHMS.  More information will come next month about these conferences and how to sign up.

The February Activity Schedule is attached to the parent email.  February does not have a lot of activities for our students so we will utilize that to get caught up before state testing gets here.  One thing that is on the calendar every year is Valentine's Day.  We do allow deliveries at LHMS; however, we don’t pass out deliveries until 10 minutes before the final bell rings.  Please note that if your child rides the bus balloons and glass containers are not allowed.

Speaking of the bus, the month of February is “Love the Bus” month.  I know many students depend on the bus to get to and from school.  Here at the LHMS, we have several staff members who are LH Bus Drivers as well–Coach Dickson, Mrs. Key, Coach Thomas, Coach Tedder, Mrs. Quast, Mrs. McCloud,  Mrs. Acosta,  Mrs. Kincannon, Mr. Gustaveson, Mr. Scott, and Mr. Lyons.  We are all grateful for the job they do.

In January we recognized Mrs. Chambers as our Feature Teacher.  Please check out the emailed attachment to learn more about Mrs. Chambers.  I hope you enjoy what some of the kids said about her.

I hope this month goes great for you and your child.  Reach out if you have any questions or need anything.
