Happy New Year!!!

I hope 2024 has started well for you and your child.  In a few days LHMS will be open to start the second half of the school year.  When you look at the school year as a whole, the first semester is usually the most exciting semester–school starts, sports and performing arts are happening and it ends with the holiday season.  However, the second semester is usually the most busy–school sports will wrap up and travel/club sports begin, state testing, and end of the year activities.  Prepare yourself for a wild ride!  Attached are the activities for the month of January.

December 22 ended the first semester.  Report cards will be sent home with your student as long as he/she doesn’t have any D’s or F’s.  If your child does have a D or F it will be mailed to his/her primary address in Eschool.  Along with your child’s report card we will be sending your child’s NWEA test results home.  This is important information you will want to review to see if he/she is progressing throughout the school year.  These results along with report card grades help determine if your child needs to be scheduled into an intervention class.

If your child rides the bus either to/from school or both please help make them aware that there are consequences for misbehavior on the bus just like at school.  Buses are an integral part of our school district.  They are not only a convenience for parents/guardians but also a safe way for your child to get to school.  Please know that when a student’s behavior puts the driver and other students in danger that student will receive a bus suspension.  Unfortunately, our LHMS December school-wide behavior challenge was not met mainly due to a large number of bus write ups.  Bus write ups accounted for 60% of the office referrals for the December challenge.

For the month of December Mrs. Katie Nunley was selected as the Middle School Feature Teacher.  Please read a little bit about her and why kids love her class in the attachment.

Another thing to celebrate is our 7th grade counselor Katelyn Taylor was selected as the Middle/Junior High Counselor of the Year for Southwest Arkansas.  As many of the kids will tell you she does a fantastic job of helping your child navigate life.

With January starting the end of May will be here quickly.  Please reach out if you think your child is needing some assistance or guidance.  School will be better for him or her if we are informed and can provide help where we can.
