All Lake Hamilton School District buildings and offices will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2021, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School will resume for students and staff on Tuesday, January 19.

COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION WEEK
Computer Science Education Week is an annual event to celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field. The week is held in recognition of the birthday of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, who invented the first compiler and coined the term “bug” (an error in a program) after removing an actual moth from a computer in 1947.
During Computer Science Education Week, December 7 - 11, the Lake Hamilton Computer Science Honor Society sponsored activities and prizes for students in 7th-12th grade. The Lake Hamilton Computer Science Honor Society received a grant from the Computer Science Teachers Association made possible by partners at Infosys Foundation USA.
Winners of the 7th grade LH Honor Society Mobile App Award are as follows (each of the students winning a Sphero Mini):
Tied for First place: Amiah Easter and Lillian Sexton
Third place: Justice Huggins
Winners of the 8th grade People’s Choice Award Mobile App Competition are as follows (each of the students winning a Sphero Mini):
Favorite Relationship App: Calm App by Michael Cruz
Favorite Self Esteem App: Self Esteem Help by Ava Grenier
Favorite Time Management App: The Management App by Carsen Reynolds
Favorite School / Health App: Homework Help Junction by Kaitlin Guthrie
Third period Wolf Time and Advisory classes at the junior high and high school competed for prizes by completing an Hour of Code and voting in the People’s Choice Award App Competition. The high school advisory class winner was Mrs. Betterton’s class. The Wolf Time class winner was Mrs. Deweber’s class. Congratulations to the students in these classes!

4-12TH GRADE FLEXIBLE FRIDAY UPDATE
​4 - 12th grade students have had the option to attend school onsite or online on Fridays. The Flexible Friday option will continue into 2021 for 4 - 12th grade students until further notice.
K - 3rd grade students will continue their normal schedule and will not participate in Flexible Fridays.

Our Junior High Best Buddies got a surprise visit from Santa and his elf to deliver letters from their friends today! Our students and teachers are working hard in the classrooms so these two were happy to spread joy and Christmas cheer.

Did you notice the small snow flurry yesterday evening? In case winter weather causes school to be closed, check out the info-graphic and information below on how the LHSD will communicate the closing!
As soon as the decision to close school is made, the district will immediately post the closing information on the following:
*Mass text notification system
*District social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
*District website (lhwolves.net)
*FM Radio Stations (105.9, 97.5)
*TV Stations (KARK 4, KATV 7, KTHV 11)
*Mass email through Wolf Week News subscription
If the decision to close is made the night prior (before 8:30 p.m.), an automated mass phone call will be sent that night.
If the decision to close is made after 8:30 p.m., the automated mass phone call will be sent at 6:00 a.m.
Here's a few tips that you can do right now to ensure you receive messages from the LHSD:
1. Make sure the primary contact phone number for your student is correct. If you've not received mass text notifications from the LHSD this year, please contact your child's office to update your number.

READING DEN BOOK RETURN
Lake Hamilton Virtual Academy students and families that checked out books from the Wolf Pack Reading Den are asked to return them on one of the following dates during virtual student bulk meal pickup behind the high school cafeteria:
Tuesday, December 15 (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)
Wednesday, December 16 (4:00 - 5:00 p.m.)
Thursday, December 17 (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)
If these dates and/or times are not convenient, books may also be returned to any school office during school hours. All checked out books should be returned by December 18, 2020. The bookmobile will not be making any community stops in December.

CHRISTMAS BREAK BULK MEALS
The Lake Hamilton School District will provide no-cost bulk meals for children 18 years and younger during Christmas break via drive-through pick up. In order to prepare the appropriate number of bulk meals, registration is required at this link: https://lhsd.info/Christmas-Break-Bulk-Meal-Registration
Bulk meal drive through pick up will take place on Friday, December 18, and Tuesday, December 29, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day.
7 breakfasts and 7 lunches will be provided for each student 18 years or younger in the household during each drive through pick up day. The registration deadline for the Christmas break bulk meals is Monday, December 14.
