FOOD SCIENCE EXPERIMENT Lake Hamilton High School students in Melody Gilleran's food safety and nutrition classes recently conducted a food science experiment that produced rainbows using food coloring in milk. Students demonstrated the property of surface tension and the effect a surfactant has on it. The students also analyzed the fat content of various milks and predicted the outcome of each milk based on their knowledge of how surfactants react to fats. #LHWolfNation

STUDENT ARTIST SELECTED FOR EXHIBITION Alexis Ogilvie, a senior art student at Lake Hamilton High School, has has submitted her work, "The Sky Diver," in the Young Arkansas Artists competition. Alexis was asked to include her work into the two-year loan program for display around the state. Displays include the Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Clinton National Airport. The Young Arkansas Artists competition highlights the remarkable talent, creativity, and perspective of Arkansas students. For 60 years, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts has been giving young student artists the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and skills through the annual Young Arkansas Artist competition. Each year, art teachers and instructors throughout Arkansas submit their students’ work K-12 in a variety of media. Traditionally, there are close to 500 entries each year. A panel of art professionals select works to be included in the exhibition. A grand juror awards a Best of Class and two Honorable Mentions per grade, as well as the Ray Smenner Award for Painting and the Mid-Southern Watercolorists Award for Watercolor. The Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition also rewards each winner’s schools to benefit their art programs and encourage further engagement with the arts.
