The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. On the morning of Tuesday, January 26, most LHHS Sophomores and some Juniors will be taking the PSAT Test on the Lake Hamilton campus. We anticipate approximately 350 LHHS students taking the PSAT Test. PSAT testing will start at 8 a.m. and should conclude by 12:30 p.m.
A student may only take the PSAT once per year. Some students take the test in both 10th and 11th grade. If a student earns a high score on the PSAT during their junior year, they could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship. $180 million dollars in merit scholarships are awarded to students each year. The PSAT tests skills in reading, writing, and math. LHHS uses scores from the PSAT to identify sophomores who have the potential for high achievement in Advanced Placement courses.
The LHHS plan for January 26 is as follows:
1oth graders will be on campus taking the exam in the morning in their advisory classes and will attend regularly scheduled classes in the afternoon.
11th graders who are taking the PSAT for the second time will test in a small group on the LHHS campus.
11th graders who are not taking the PSAT and all 12th graders will pivot off-campus for a digital day.
11th and 12th graders are encouraged to participate in their classes at National Park Technology Center.
11th and 12th graders who participate in classes at National Park Technology Center and ride LHSD transportation to NPTC will be able to access transportation on their normal schedule. Students who ride a bus to school to attend NPTC and then return to LHHS and ride a bus home may remain on campus and connect to their classes while in the Wolf Den.
