There are times when it is necessary to communicate news that is painful for all of us. During those times, we must be prepared to support each other as we deal with the many feelings that we begin to experience. It is with great sorrow we share the sudden passing of longtime and beloved music teacher and bus driver, Mr. Paul Graves. Mr. Graves has been a fixture in the Lake Hamilton School District for the past 31 years and cared very deeply about the success and wellbeing of each and every one of his students and colleagues.
In order to support our students and staff during this difficult time, additional counselors will be available during the school days ahead to assist with questions and grief which accompany such a difficult situation.
Parents are asked to make an extra effort to listen to their children during this difficult time. Please contact the school if we can be of additional assistance to you and/or your child. Below are some suggestions that parents may find useful:
*Be a good listener. Listen carefully for any misconceptions or distortions your child may have.
*Provide physical closeness. Spend extra time with your child. Talk and offer reassurance.
*Encourage your child to ask questions and to discuss their feelings.
Mr. Graves drove bus 53. This bus, along with a tribute banner and box for cards, will be parked at the Lake Hamilton School District administration building beginning Monday afternoon, November 30, for those that would like to write a tribute or leave a card for the family. The banner and cards will be delivered to the family of Mr. Graves.
From Superintendent Shawn Higginbotham: “Our hearts are heavy with the loss of such a great man and fine teacher. Paul’s positivity and upbeat nature were evident all the time. Attendance at any of the concerts and performances he directed was a testament to his commitment to excellence. His passion for his students and his craft have left an enduring mark on our school and community. Paul will be terribly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Condolences also go to his Lake Hamilton Intermediate School family.”
